THE FUTILITY OF POST-SEALING

THE FUTILITY OF POST-SEALING

At one time resins were sealed with a lightly filled resin to fill voids and porosities observed at the EM level of magnification. The restoration was re-etched, and the thin sealing resin applied and cured.

These imperfections detected by EM extended only to a depth of 10microns. However, minimum annual wear is 12 to 30 microns. Thus post-sealing confers a benefit that lasts very briefly. As such it is not a significant contribution to excellence.
